The Counsellors

(Leanne & Harvey)

Credentials

I have a Bachelor of Business Degree, majoring in Psychology, along with courses on leadership, time management and lateral thinking.  I have worked in the army and the police force where as an operational officer I was often involved with couples suffering the loss of a loved one; couples tired, bored or frustrated with each other; couples angry and bitter; couples who physically and emotionally abused one another, and couples whose extreme actions led to tragic and often fatal consequences.  These experiences exposed me to the full gamut of human emotions.  My time in the army, the police force and the public service spanned 42 years. Many years running a Bed and Breakfast with Leanne afforded me the opportunity to experience first-hand hundreds of couples, each with their unique strengths, idiosyncrasies and personalities.  Additionally, I’m the author of ‘Winning In The Workplace’ which is aimed at school leavers and young adults, the intention being to assist them find and retain meaningful employment.  I have two children, a son aged 44, and a daughter aged 30, plus two grandchildren, a boy and a girl.  I have also written seven crime novels, with more to come.

Leanne worked as a State Enrolled Nurse for six years, with four of those in a Psychiatric Unit for geriatric patients. She also
worked for the Department Head of the Diabetes Faculty at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.  This experience has provided her
with a wealth of emotional empathy and understanding regarding human nature, recognising its strengths and weaknesses.
Leanne also ran a successful small business for fifteen years which employed qualified trades people, along with trainees and apprentices.  Leanne has four children, three daughters and a son, their ages ranging from 28 to 38.

While not diminishing the worth of formal education associated with counselling qualifications as previously detailed, Leanne and I believe we have attributes far more valuable to offer, those being substantial life skills gained from a wealth of hands-on involvement with numerous individuals, assisting them with their everyday needs and issues .  This ensures there is no situation we haven’t personally experienced, or had to deal with in some form or another in our professional and private careers. This affords us a wide-ranging degree of understanding, empathy, and compassion, enabling us to establish an immediate rapport with couples during their difficult time.
